Pharmacist Interns

Intern Registration for Pharmacists

Every person wishing to become an intern must make an application to the Registrar on the online prescribed form accompanied by:

  1. character references from two reputable citizens of the community who are not family members, and who have known you for at least two years, certifying that the applicant is of good moral character, and
  1. information establishing the character and suitability to practise of the applicant, including a criminal record check (CRC)*;
  2. the applicable prescribed registration fee(s); and
  3. an enrollment verification from the University of Saskatchewan confirming both semesters of the current academic year.

*Note that the University of Saskatchewan and the College have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that allows the College to accept the CRC students must complete prior to enrollment at the University. The MOU extends until the end of the internship.

Extended Internships

As of March 25, 2020, SCPP extended the Internship category until graduates complete their Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) qualifying examinations or 12 months after their degree is obtained, whichever comes first. Extended Interns will have a one-time opportunity to make a request to the Registrar for an extension of six months under extenuating circumstances.

Extended internships ensure a sound foundation as new graduates start their pharmacy careers and orient themselves under the mentorship and supervision of licensed pharmacists. Extended interns may work to their full scope of practice under the supervision of a fully licensed pharmacist (not including final sign-off for prescriptions). Please find more information on supervision requirements here.
